PMR - Special Transport
The PMR service is a special transport service, reserved for people with reduced mobility, mostly in wheelchairs, duly proven to impair their journeys on the regular public passenger transport system.
This service covers the entire municipality of Funchal, by prior appointment.
It is a 'door-to-door service', aimed to meet the needs of our users, starting and ending at a designated location, if the buses allocated to the service have access to that location.
Opening Hours:
Monday to Friday, from 08h00 to 20h00;
Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays, from 10h00 to 21h00;
No service on 25th December.
Conditions of use:
Registration
The service works by registration, upon presentation of the following documents:
- Registration form for inclusion in the special transport service for PMR;
- Photocopy of the Civil identification card, Tax identification card and Social Security beneficiary card;
- Medical certificate proving the disability - it must be expressly stated that the mobility of the beneficiary is reduced to the point of not being able to access the regular public passenger transport system;
- A passport-type photo.
The registration is made at the HF sale office located at the Centro Comercial Anadia Shopping - Store nº 6.
Booking and types of services
Requests for booking, as well as later cancellations or changes in schedules, locations, and the number of people transported, must be made in advance, to allow HF to prepare the transport schedule, making the booking subject to the existence of a vacancy.
When booking, it must be indicated whether the user is travelling with a companion, and the companion cannot have reduced mobility.
Regular service:
Refers to any use that can be scheduled on a weekly basis.
In the frequent service, user is obliged to notify the company in advance of any change or non-use of the transport. This notice must be given at least two working days in advance, except in duly justified cases of force majeure. The repeated failure may lead to a review of the process, with exclusion from the regular service, with re-entry into this service subject to the existence of a vacancy.
In the frequent services, once scheduled, HF will not confirm individual trips. Any changes that need to be made to the schedule will be communicated to users in advance.
In the casual service, booking requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance, and with the following information:
- The user’s telephone number, origin, destination, time at which the user intends to reach that destination, and if will use a wheelchair or not during the journey;
- Indication of whether the user is travelling with a companion.
The users that request the service should obtain confirmation and an indication of the time of the service, through a call from 3 pm of the day before the service. Without this confirmation, the transport will not be booked.
Exceptionally, it is accepted requests within an hour of the transport being required, but only if HF confirms that it is possible.
Occasional service:
Rental of a vehicle equipped for full accessibility for PMR with a driver.
More info Travelling with a companion
Users who need help must travel with a companion who can provide the necessary assistance. The companion cannot have reduced mobility.
The travelling companion must purchase an on board ticket. Children up to the age of 5 will be transported free of charge when they do not occupy a seat as a companion.
In the case of transporting blind people, they may be accompanied by guide dogs, if they are leashed and muzzled, do not disturb the other passengers in any way and do not harm the maintenance, cleanliness and driving of the vehicles.
Passenger Delays
The user should be at the place of origin at the appointed time. When the user does not comply with this requirement, the transport may not be guaranteed. Repetition in this behaviour may result in the exclusion from the service.

On this service you can use the municipal social pass for the Funchal network or purchase the municipal on board ticket.
